One of Jim’s children were able to visit yesterday with their family. They all live out of town, so it isn’t like they can just pop over.
It was just a visit for a couple of hours which was enough. Jim wouldn’t have been able to handle an overnight stay. Especially with little kids running around.
I was curious about how he would present. How much he would be able to interact.
Sadly, he didn’t talk much. There was too much going on around him, he couldn’t keep track and speak more than a sentence or two at a time. He also didn’t absorb much of what was said around him. I’ve repeated the highlights several times since they left and will several more times I’m sure.
The actions through, he remembered those. The dog jumping, helping the kids on our exercise equipment downstairs etc. He had a good day.
I’ve been pondering how to tell his kids about the probable need for Jim to have at least a partial amputation on one of his feet, possibly both. I was also worried about their reaction to my decision to move their father across the country.
The conversation went better than expected. I received offers of help in ways I hadn’t considered. Obstacles I considered impossible to work around, were parted like the Red Sea.
I actually slept well last night, for the first time in a few weeks.
