Yesterday was ‘interesting’.
I’m sure Jim could sense my excitement as I closed the purchase for the house back East. Happily, the plumbers for to water-main/supply leak under my lawn came a day early to distract him.
He stood in the window all day and watched as they dug a 10 foot trench and replaced the pipes. As they were cleaning up the mud and gravel from our driveway. Jim suddenly rushed down the stairs.
I didn’t pay much attention since I was starting to get supper ready and ran the water. There wasn’t as much water pressure as before so I went out to ask the guys about it before they left.
As I walked out the door. Jim said, “It’s okay babe, I’ve already talked to them.”
I smiled and asked, “What did you talk to them about?”
He couldn’t remember, so I continued on and talked to the fellow about the water pressure.
Later, as we ate supper he told me how there was a guy trying to hose off our driveway using the water from our outside hose and he “set him straight.” Before they’d finished working, Jim had forgotten they’d been there for over seven hours and wanted to know why he was in our yard.
After his shower and we settled down to watch TV for the evening, Jim dozed off. When he roused he started laughing at himself. “You know,” he said to me. “When I first woke up I saw a young girl standing there in front of the fire place.”
I had to get up and pretend to get a class of water to drink in order to hide the tears that sprang to my eyes. He hears things all the time, especially when he naps. That had been his first visual hallucination.
We’re no longer at the brink of stage six, over the past few months we’ve slide firmly into it’s grasp. (Seven Stages of Dementia _ Symptoms, Progression & Durations)
I’m so glad I’ve bumped the move up by a few weeks. Less time for him to be disoriented and anxious.
