Marathon Mornings

I’ve noticed that Jim takes extra long in the mornings now to get ready.

He is trying to focus on so many little things that he used to do by muscle memory-now he’s confusing himself. He’ll start a task and then question why and how he’s doing it. He’s distracting himself and pulling his process off course.

Today, he came to me, still in his underwear, holding a bottle of eye drops from the kitchen table. He asked me if I recognized the bottle as he’d never seen it before. (These are the drops I put in every morning and night)

It didn’t worry me that he didn’t recognize the bottle. That’s par for the course these days. What made me curious, was what was he doing in the kitchen in his underwear to begin with? He couldn’t tell me.

I find that more and more, he’s chasing his thoughts when he has them, rather than try to remember their content/directive for later.

Good in theory but hard to watch as he runs around in circles.
