Well, I was wrong. Despite the problems with Jim’s eyes, I’ve always assumed diabetes was the less dangerous of the trio of illnesses that plague Jim.
Hypertension = Heart Attack
Cholesterol = Heart Attack
Diabetes = treatable eye, foot and kidney issues
Well, the feet may not be treatable anymore.
Over the past year, Jim has lost more sensation in his feet. To the point where, when he says his foot hurts, I’m immediately in emergency mode because he has so little feeling.
His feet are so numb, it affects his balance.
Well, yesterday we had an appointment with a specialist. I went into the appointment assuming there was an angiogram or angioplasty in our future.
I wish!
The doctor is sending us for a diagnostic appointment to see how much circulation is actually in his feet. The doctor couldn’t detect a pulse when we were in his office.
What does this mean?
It means that partial foot amputation is almost certainly in our future. The only silver lining… Jim has already forgotten the doctor’s appointment.
So for heaven’s sake. If you have diabetes or are at risk for it. Take it seriously. Don’t mess around.
It’s already screwed up Jim’s eyes and now his feet are in trouble.
